About Us
My family purchased our first Old English sheepdog when I was just a toddler in 1972. We lived in England at the time. Bonnie was from Wildahar Kennels in Essex, England. Some of my earliest memories were of going to the “farm” to have picnics with her before we brought her home. She was my nanny dog. When Steve and I got married we brought Sucia into our family she was the great (x6) niece to my Bonnie, she was also born the day we got married. Both of my boys grew up with Sucia, and she was a lovely clown-ball, the epitome of a sheepdog. I had always wanted to show and breed Sucia, but life with 2 little boys got in the way. When she passed away in my arms at 12, my heart was broken.
I met Deanna and Charley (Loehr’s Island Bound) at a dog show in Lynden. I asked if I could pet him and what I got was sheepie love. Before I knew it I had paws on my shoulders and my entire face washed as tears ran down my face. Deanna and I hit it off and she agreed to let me co-own a puppy out of Charley’s next litter with her. I was blessed to be able to bring Saffy into our lives. My life goal has been to breed and show OES, and with this beautiful girl, I have been able to fulfill that dream. Thank you to Deanna and to Janet Loehr for taking me under your wings. Your guidance and knowledge have been invaluable.
I am currently a member of our local club the Old English Sheepdog club of Greater Seattle, and I have recently joined the National OES club of America. As such I abide by both club’s code of ethics.
My goal for Island Bound Sheepdogs is to raise beautiful, happy, healthy dogs. I want to preserve those traits that make the Old English Sheepdog unique, both physical and personality. I am committed to the health testing of my dogs and only breeding dogs with health testing clearances. I am also committed to the behavioral health of OES. I believe that great dogs start with early neurological stimulation. All our puppies will be raised with the Puppy Culture bio-sensor program. I want to ensure that our puppies go to loving homes. Whether they be conformation, performance or your beloved companion I will be available for support.
